Greater Kansas City PCC Testimonials
What Does the PCC Mean to Me - My Journey in 2008
For years, everything I knew about processing mail consisted of "slapping on a stamp and sending it off to a destination." My responsibility in the mailroom at Deluxe Check Corporation made it abundantly clear that there was so much more to getting a single piece of mail delivered.
After seven years in the industry, I had graduated to very large, very high-volume mailings on behalf of Deluxe Corp.. I was pretty sure that I had conquered the mailing industry just based on the sheer volumes I was responsible for sending out each day. Surely I had mastered this process by now, especially since I very rarely got any complaints back from the customers.
Looking for adventure and acting on the friendly advice from a partner at the Postal Service, I looked at an organization called the Greater Kansas City Postal Customer Council (GKCPCC). With guarded measure, I joined the group for $25. My feeling was that "even if I miss on this one, I'm only out 25 bucks." At first I thought, "What can they teach me? I know everything there is to know about mail." I was pretty sure that there were very few people in this organization that were handling as much mail as me! I sat in on some meetings just for the fun of it over the phone. In a very short time into my very first meeting, I noticed that the people on the other end were pretty smart, and everything they talked about were things that I was familiar with. "See . . . I already know all this stuff!"
However, the further along the meeting went, the more these people talked about things I knew nothing about. Now they seemed intelligent beyond imagination when I thought of how much (or how little) I knew about mail. Good for me to not have the other members see the look on my face when this became a reality to me. That day it became painfully obvious to me that I really knew very little of the voluminous nuances, procedures, and regulations involved with mail processing.
Having just had my bubble burst, I stepped into what seemed like the abyss and started asking questions of my friends in the PCC. Instead of anyone in this group treating me as the virtual unknown I was, several of the members took me under their wings and showed me the way to a more efficient and effective mailing process. The group has given me opportunities to grow as an individual and has helped me to a position where I can better serve my company and, more importantly, serve our customers.
There have been times in the past I felt that I was on my own when it came to presenting large mailings to the Postal Service. I now have my resources around the city developed through the GKCPCC to find help and/or answer my mail preparation questions. Now I know what to do and how to do it, and, if not on my own, I have people to call on who always provide an answer. The Postal Service is more customer friendly than ever before, and those professionals are readily available to provide support when I need it. In addition, the GKCPCC continues to support and educate me on current topics and processes.
The GKCPCC has truly been an asset in my growth by giving me the knowledge and skill to perform my duties with confidence. This knowledge the PCC provides establishes a strong foundation for helping me support my employer and also prepares me for many personal opportunities in the future.
Through my association with the PCC, I have been professionally enriched by gaining certification as an Executive Mail Center Manager and a Mail Preparation Professional, honors I am extremely proud to have earned. I have also made many professional contacts throughout the industry and have enjoyed meeting other mail processing professionals.
The PCC has given me a tremendous amount of knowledge, skill, confidence, and support by enriching my knowledge of mail processing requirements. I certainly look forward to a long and lucrative relationship. Come aboard and get involved!
